User Testing
After presenting my ibook to the class I then tested my ibook with someone from the target audience from testing the book. I asked them to open my ibook and read through each page and click on anything they want along the way. Whilst watching I found that several times it took the reader time to return to the previous page and only did this by closing and reopening the book.
I got feedback similar to the feedback I got from the class crit. Three main points that came up in the user testing is the good use of images that made my ibook interesting and helped make the subject of The Arctic feel realistic. The second main feedback I got from user testing was that my book was simple to navigate through with lots of interesting facts and interactive elements but they couldn't return to the previous page of a book without having to exit the book and re open it which is a problem i am looking to solve. The third main thing that was mentioned was that titles throughout the last section were hard to read as they are whit text on a light grey background image. This is another thing I am also looking to change by changing the white headings to black for the last section of my book.
Ideally I would like to do more user testing on my book by asking other people to look at my book and also asking them to look at my book after I had made changes to see if the changes I made had improved my book or if there were still problems that I could easily fix. By doing user testing on more than one user it allows for any main problems to be seen and anything that may have been a problem for one user but not everyone using the book to show.
I was only able to test my book on one user due to the time seclude for this project and also allowing time to make changes before the deadline but I found the feedback I got useful. Seeing someone use my ibook as if it was a published ibook made clear which problems were most important to solve. User testing made clear not only what the strengths and weaknesses were with my ibook but also gave me ideas of how I could solve them simply for example changing the colour of the heading on some pages to make the text readable.
